In this episode I take a look at some “Affordable” video cameras. You know, the cameras that everyone has been talking about and can’t live without.
- Canon T2i
- Kodak PlayTouch (Zi10)
- GoPro Hero2
- Apple iPhone 4s
In this totally non scientific test, I take these cameras out into some pretty harsh environments, high noon in 100 degree heat and back lit etc etc.
Here are some observations:
- T2i - Out of the box in auto mode is works great but in back lit situations it’s auto metering couldn’t handle the AMOUNT of back lighting I threw at it. The metering is not moveable in Film mode. I choose to let it ride and show you on the end scene how putting it in manual mode will allow you to easily balance for serious back lit situations. I love this camera! (Watch the above video in 1080 mode for a real treat!)
- PlayTouch - unfortunately after this test this is not my fave anymore. It replaced my Flip Mino (no longer in production) and I miss my Flip!
- Hero2 - This is a ROCK STAR. I’m not sure what’s going on with the audio. Got some buzz/distortion. I’ll see if it’s there with an external mic. Still… picture quality was outstanding!
- iPhone 4s - This was a very pleasant surprise. With the ability to set focus and exposure points you can shoot in just about any situation.
